Noida, October 21: Emperia Marathas secured the second spot in the Volleyball Champions League (VCL) final after registering a convincing 3-0 win over Haryana Hurricanes at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Wednesday. The Marathas will now face Delhi Dynamites in the title clash on Friday, October 23, with the championship within touching distance.

The contest began on an intense note, with both teams trading points in a closely fought opening set. Haryana Hurricanes pushed the Marathas all the way, but Emperia held their nerve in the crucial moments to clinch the set 22-20 and take an early lead.

Having gained the upper hand, the Marathas raised their level in the second set. They found greater rhythm in their play, tightened their defence and converted key attacking opportunities to register a comfortable 21-12 win, moving one set away from the final.

Haryana looked to stage a fightback in the third set, but Emperia maintained their composure and continued to put pressure on their opponents. The Marathas closed out the set 21-18 to complete a straight-sets victory and confirm their place in the final.

Shubham Choudhary was named Player of the Match for his performance, while his teammate Nikhil Choudhary received the Impact Player award for his contribution to the team's win.

We will prepare well for the final against Delhi Dynamites and give everything we have to win the title.”

From nearly 2,500 students envisioning their dream India to innovation, rangoli inspired by national development and a blood donation camp, four initiatives connect young people with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

21st October, 2026: Marking 25 years of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s public life and journey of governance, Seva Sankalp – Rashtranirman Ke 25 Saal, convened by Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), extends the spirit of service and nation-building through a series of youth-focused initiatives. From encouraging students to articulate their vision for India to promoting creativity, innovation and community service, the programmes seek to connect the milestone with the aspirations of the generation that will shape the country’s next chapter and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Spanning a school-level competition, a creative engagement around government schemes, an innovation-focused programme and a blood donation camp, the initiatives reflect a broader effort to connect the milestone with the generation that will shape India’s next chapter. The focus is on encouraging young people to think about the country they want to build and recognise the many ways in which they can contribute to its progress.

One of the most striking examples of this engagement was ‘Mere Sapno Ka Bharat’ at St. Joseph School, Jalandhar, Punjab, where nearly 2,500 students participated in elocution and painting competitions. Asked to imagine the India of their dreams, students expressed their aspirations through speeches and artwork, touching upon cleaner surroundings, better education, equality, opportunity, kindness, innovation and national pride. The scale of participation made the initiative a significant platform for young voices to articulate their vision for the country.

Reflecting on the students’ response, Dr Mittal said, “For me, that is where Viksit Bharat becomes real; in the dreams of children who are beginning to imagine their own role in shaping it.”

The campaign also brought national development themes into the realm of creative expression through ‘Seva Ke Rang, Rashtra Ke Sang’, a rangoli initiative centred on the vision of public welfare and progress reflected in government schemes. By using a familiar art form to engage participants with larger national priorities, the activity connected cultural expression with awareness of the country’s development journey.

Complementing these efforts, the Innovation Challenge, also referred to as the Innovation Marathon in the event list, added an ideas-driven dimension to Seva Sankalp. The initiative brought innovation and problem-solving into the conversation around nation-building, highlighting the importance of encouraging young minds to engage with challenges and think about solutions that can contribute to India’s future.

Other youth-focused engagements under Seva Sankalp, including Aashirwad Ka Dhaaga, have also contributed to the initiative’s broader effort to connect young people with the vision of nation-building.

The fourth initiative took the spirit of service from ideas to direct action. A blood donation camp at Lovely Professional University (LPU) encouraged participation in a life-saving cause, reinforcing the message that contributing to society can begin with a simple but meaningful act. It extended Seva Sankalp’s emphasis on public responsibility into a practical expression of community service.

Reflecting on the broader purpose of these initiatives, Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal said, “Nation-building is a collective effort that begins with the ideas and aspirations of young people and grows through their willingness to contribute to society. Whether through creativity, innovation or acts of service, every effort can play a role in shaping a stronger Bharat. Through Seva Sankalp, the aim is to encourage this spirit of participation and shared responsibility as India moves towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”

Together, these initiatives give a people-led dimension to Seva Sankalp – Rashtranirman Ke 25 Saal. While the 25-year milestone reflects on a significant journey of public service under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the programmes also turn attention towards the aspirations and responsibilities of the generation that will carry India forward.

For Dr Mittal, the larger significance lies in creating avenues through which national development becomes something young people can engage with directly—whether by expressing their vision for India, understanding development priorities, exploring new ideas or contributing to a cause that serves others. As the country looks towards Viksit Bharat 2047, these initiatives place participation and a sense of shared responsibility at the centre of the journey ahead.

This year’s entries featured human-centred solutions using artificial intelligence, wearable IoT and sustainable design. Over 50% of the ideas came from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, demonstrating that innovation is not confined to urban centres and that promising solutions to real-world challenges can emerge from every corner of Bharat.

The finalists received mentorship from Samsung, startup founders and experts from FITT, IIT Delhi to refine their hardware and software prototypes.

“India’s next wave of innovation will depend on how well we connect technology to people’s needs and give young people the opportunity to take ideas from the problems they see to solutions they can test and build. Sustaining that journey strengthens the country’s capacity to innovate and is an important part of nation-building. This year’s Samsung Solve for Tomorrow finalists have brought curiosity, empathy and purpose to challenges in their communities, applying emerging technologies to real-world problems.
These partnerships connect young innovators with wider support across India’s startup and innovation ecosystem. Through these collaborations, Samsung is helping build a culture of problem-solving and entrepreneurship, empowering young innovators to transform their ideas into market-ready solutions.

The Grand Finale also featured an Investor Meet for all Top 20 teams. The interaction gave the young innovators an opportunity to engage with the startup and investment ecosystem and explore pathways to take their innovations to the next level.

Distinguished guests at the awards ceremony included Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Technology, Government of India, Stefan Priesner, United Nations Resident Coordinator in India and Nikhil Agarwal, Managing Director, FITT, IIT Delhi.

“Innovation advances sustainable development when it is guided by inclusion, empathy and a clear understanding of people’s needs. India’s young innovators are at the heart of achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Samsung Solve for Tomorrow gives young people the opportunity to have these values frame their solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable future. I congratulate the winners and all participants, and commend Samsung for encouraging young people to engage with the challenges shaping our shared future,” said Stefan Priesner, United Nations Resident Coordinator in India.

“Science and technology create the greatest value when they address challenges in people’s lives. This year’s Samsung Solve for Tomorrow finalists have brought that approach to a wide range of issues, from healthcare and sustainability to sports, using curiosity and problem-solving to shape their ideas. Platforms that take young people from identifying a challenge to designing and testing a solution strenghten the ecosystem with a culture of innovation across the country,” said Prof. Umesh V. Waghmare, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

“Innovation takes more than a promising idea; it requires a deep understanding of the user and the discipline to test, refine and scale a solution. This year’s Samsung Solve for Tomorrow finalists have demonstrated both technological ingenuity and a strong sense of purpose. The next step is to help the winning teams move beyond prototypes towards solutions with measurable impact.

Mumbai, India, 15th October 2026: The race for power is getting fiercer, loyalties are hanging by a thread, and the Tower is hurtling towards another decisive showdown. As the Workers seize an opportunity to challenge the existing order, simmering rivalries in the Penthouse threaten to spill over, with egos clashing and old equations taking fresh hits. But just as the game hints at a possible takhta palat, Judgement Day delivers a double elimination that leaves the Basement shaken. In a Tower where every victory comes at a price, is this the beginning of a new power order, or just another twist before the next fall?

The road to ultimate power begins with the “Delivering Apna Pan” challenge, where Niharika Tiwari and Swara Bhasker compete for a shot at the coveted crown, with Sara Gurpal playing for Niharika and Manish Kashyap backing Swara. The four Workers must navigate a delivery chain that tests their teamwork, trust and coordination, with two Workers bound together at the hands passing products to two blindfolded delivery agents, who must then find their way to the customers. The first team to complete six deliveries in the least possible time wins, bringing its contender closer to ultimate power. Niharika ultimately claims victory, becoming the first woman Ultimate Ruler of the season! Her victory marks a significant shift in the Tower’s power dynamics, giving Sara a reason to celebrate and leaving the Workers hopeful that this could be the opportunity they need to turn the tables on the Rulers.

Yet, a new crown rarely means a quiet reign. Before leaving, Sara warns Raj, Kaira and Jashwant about Priyanka Chahar Choudhary’s alleged plotting, adding fresh intrigue to the Tower’s alliances. Meanwhile, Niharika and Sara try to clear the air with Rishabh, hinting at a possible shift in their equation as loyalties continue to be tested in the Basement.

Upstairs, the drama takes a sharper, more personal turn as Shehzad Poonawalla vents his frustrations about Irina Rudakova to Swara Bhasker. Making his grievances clear, Shehzad says, “Iss behl buddhi ko pata nahi hai mein kaun hu bahar se, Teju bhaiya ka jitna stature hai usse kam mera stature nahi in the world of political debates”. He later tells Sara and Irina about his powerful background, leaving Irina feeling threatened by his remarks. Another confrontation follows, with Shehzad losing his cool and threatening to walk out of the Tower. With tensions escalating and misunderstandings turning into full-blown clashes, the Penthouse finds itself caught in another storm of egos and accusations.

And just when the Tower seems consumed by its personal battles, Judgement Day arrives with a verdict that could change the fate of the Basement. Kaira, Gautam, Priyanka, Raj and Kajal Raghwani are summoned to the Workshop, where the matkas hold the results that will determine who moves towards safety and who edges closer to elimination. But this is Rise and Fall, where even a moment of relief can be short-lived. As the Workers break open the matkas, the verdicts keep shifting. By the final round, Raj, Kajal and Kaira are in the Danger Zone, and with two Workers set to leave the Tower, the power to decide their fate rests with the Rulers.

The final decision brings no easy answers. Raj is the first to be eliminated, with no Ruler stepping forward to save him. As the votes unfold, Rishabh and Shehzad back Kaira, while Niharika, Irina, Sara and Swara choose Kajal, with Sara honouring an earlier promise. In the end, Kajal is saved, while Raj and Kaira leave the Tower, with both breaking down as they bid farewell to the game. From Niharika’s historic coronation to a double elimination that shakes the Basement, the Tower has witnessed triumph, betrayal and painful choices. With a new ruler at the helm and the Workers reeling from their losses, how long before the Tower’s fragile balance of power is shaken once again?

Produced by Banijay Asia, Rise and Fall Season 2 is hosted by Virender Sehwag and streams free, exclusively on Prime Video, with fresh episodes every day at 12 noon. The show is available through MX Player by Prime Video on the MX Player Android app, as well as across mobile devices, Connected TVs, the Amazon shopping app, Prime Video and Fire TV.

October, 2026 : Lovely Professional University (LPU) has received the Platinum Green Impact Award 2026, the highest recognition under the Seed Balls for Sustainable Campuses Initiative 2026 organised by the National EduTrust of India (NEI). The nationwide campaign invited higher education institutions to prepare and responsibly disperse seed balls containing tree seeds as a practical exercise in biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration and environmental education. As part of the initiative, LPU prepared 8,572 seed balls using 11 tree species, involving 422 students, and dispersed them across five geo-tagged locations spanning Kapurthala, Amritsar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar districts of Punjab.

LPU’s participation is particularly significant because of the ecological composition of the seed balls. Of the total 8,572 prepared, 7,643 seed balls, or 89.2 per cent, used native species, while 929, or 10.8 per cent, used naturalised species. Native species included Karanj, Shisham, Amaltas, Kachnar, Moringa, Kadam, Jamun, and Arjun, while naturalised species included Imli, Gulmohar, and Pink Shower.

The campaign was designed by NEI to take environmental learning beyond awareness and into direct participation. Students and faculty were encouraged to understand local tree species, prepare seed balls using natural materials, and disperse them at ecologically suitable locations. The initiative formed part of a larger nationwide effort involving around 350 institutions, which collectively prepared more than 10 lakh seed balls and dispersed approximately 8 lakh of them.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, stated, “Sustainability cannot remain an idea discussed within classrooms or captured only in institutional reports, it must find its way into the soil, the communities and the choices we make every day. This prestigious award is encouraging because it recognises this spirit of participation, but more importantly, it reinforces a vision of education where knowledge is connected with responsibility towards nature and society”

At LPU, the activity extended beyond the university campus into different ecological settings. Of the 8,572 seed balls prepared, 6,072 were dispersed at field sites, while 2,500 were distributed through Green Gift packets. The documented dispersal sites included the LPU campus and adjoining areas in Phagwara, the AH1 Corridor in Kapurthala, Budha Theh near Beas, Lahorimal on the AH1 Corridor in Amritsar and the Chandigarh Jalandhar Expressway at Balachaur. Together, these sites covered approximately 130 kilometres of green corridors, including campus green belts, highway green belts, riverine embankments, roadside verges and expressway green belts.

The initiative engaged students from across 27 academic schools, with 422 students participating in the seed activity. Alongside the dispersal exercise, five awareness activities were conducted to connect the practical work with wider conversations around environmental responsibility, biodiversity and climate action.

The Platinum Green Impact Award 2026 adds a ground-level dimension to this 25-year journey, translating LPU’s broader sustainability vision into direct student participation and ecological action. Earlier in 2026, LPU was also recognised in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, where it was placed 23rd globally and emerged as the highest ranked institution in India for its contribution towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Together, these recognitions reflect an approach to sustainability that spans institutional infrastructure, education, biodiversity, and measurable action on the ground.

Every face holds a story, and every artist reveals a different chapter.”

With its rare coming together of celebrated names and contemporary voices, HEADS – Every Face Holds a Story promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking exhibition for collectors, art enthusiasts and the wider public.

Jalandhar : Adorned in the Tricolour and echoing the spirit of “Har Ghar Tiranga," Lovely Professional University (LPU) celebrated India's 80th Independence Day with a powerful tribute to the courage of the nation's freedom fighters and armed forces and the responsibility entrusted to today's youth to carry that legacy forward.

The celebrations commenced with the Flag Hoisting Ceremony by Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, accompanied by a ceremonial march, a stirring live band performance, and an impeccably presented NCC Guard of Honor. As the national flag was unfurled and the national anthem echoed across the campus, the moment filled the gathering with pride and deep reverence for the nation.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, urged students to redefine patriotism by embracing economic independence as the nation's next mission. "Political freedom made us a nation; economic strength will make us a global power," Dr. Mittal said, calling upon students to take a pledge to earn while they study, support their parents by generating their own educational expenses, and graduate with a career rather than just a degree. Dr. Mittal emphasised that when every young person becomes financially independent, they strengthen their families, contribute to India's GDP, and become the true flag bearers of Viksit Bharat, describing this as "our Inquilab." Dr. Mittal also said that Vande Mataram is not merely a patriotic song but a guiding path towards Viksit Bharat, with every word inspiring young people to turn its ideals into reality.

The patriotic spirit continued with a series of captivating cultural presentations celebrating India's unity in diversity. A soulful rendition of Vande Mataram, inspiring patriotic performances, and artistic presentations reflected the country's rich heritage, resilience, and collective spirit. One of the most impactful highlights of the celebration was a powerful theatrical tribute to Shaheed Sardar Udham Singh, which brought alive his extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment to justice, reminding the audience of the sacrifices that shaped India's freedom.

The celebration beautifully blended honour and expression, with every performance carrying a meaningful message of courage, unity, and hope. From music and theatre to patriotic recitations and cultural showcases, students transformed the occasion into a heartfelt tribute to the ideals that continue to define the nation. More than a national celebration, the day served as a reminder to youth that the legacy of independence is carried forward through responsibility, integrity, and collective action. As the Tricolour waved high, the spirit of unity echoed across the campus, celebrating not just a day, but the true essence of being Indian.
